The Pastel Society will be presenting two new prizes in our 125th Anniversary Year.
In memory of a great artist and former Pastel Society President, THE TOM COATES MEMORIAL PRIZE of £2,000 will be for the best non-member work in the exhibition. This will be selected and presented by Tom’s wife, the artist Mary Jackson NEAC RWS.
A second new prize of £500 - THE PRESIDENTS PRIZE will be for the best work by an artist under 35. These prizes are in addition to all the regular prizes we have every year from our many generous sponsors

Artist's Statement:
I enjoy painting both still-life and the figure and have recently started painting horses during this lockdown (they have become my new figure/portrait subject). No matter what my subject, I endeavour to achieve a good drawing followed by capturing the way that light and shadow fall over a face or figure to convey form. With still-life, I like the way light can convey mood and can transform everyday objects from the mundane to the beautiful.
