Artist's Statement:

The drawings that I exhibit at the Pastel Society are mainly portraits and nudes in either charcoal or chalk pastels. They are the result of intense observation from the model with attention to detail and meticulous mark making. I endeavour to show a sense of humanity to my portraits and nudes whether it is a sense of peace and calm or an underlying tension and I hope this is portrayed in the work. I like the impact of charcoal on white paper which has a timeless quality. However, when I do use colour I enjoy showing the subtleties of skin colouring and the effects of light with a fairly limited palette. Quite often my drawings are studies in preparation for an oil painting,
