Brian Plummer (b.1934 - 2023)

Artist in watercolour and paper relief, with major works in acrylic on board relief, and teacher. He was born and lived in London where he studied at Hornsey College of Art, 1954–7, then Royal Academy Schools, 1957–60.

Became director of foundation studies at University of Westminster.

Group exhibitions included Barcelona Biennale, 1979, where he won a prize; Riverside Gallery, 1983–4; International Contemporary Arts, Tokyo, 1989; and Bruton Street Gallery, 1991.

Brian had a solo show at Drian Galleries, 1965, later ones including Abbot Hall Art Gallery, Kendal, 1984, and Macquarie Galleries, Sydney, Australia, 1988.

There was an exhibition at Piano Nobile Fine Paintings in 2001 to celebrate the publication of Norbert Lynton’s book Brian Plummer Landscape and Perception, Lynton remarking that “at one level Plummer is a Constructivist…but Plummer is also, openly and visibly, a landscape painter”.

Abbot Hall, Lancaster University, Mobil Oil and other public and corporate collections hold examples of his work.
